Featurette: World Superbikes - Laguna Seca 2015
Laguna is one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world, and Superbike racing is one of the most beautiful forms of motorsport. The combination results in stunning photographic opportunities.

The start of WSBK race 1 saw welshman Chaz Davies pull a significant gap by only the second corner. He dominated the proceedings all weekend.

Laguna Seca is one of the most beautiful race tracks in the world, and motorcycle racing is one of the most beautiful forms of motorsport. This combination results in absolutely stunning photographic opportunities. These images were captured at round nine of the 2015 World Superbike championship, held jointly with MotoAmerica national classes.

In the MotoAmerica championship, 600cc racing is a diverse affair. Six manufacturers are represented across the grid. Here, an MV Agusta is followed by three Yamahas and a Honda.

Riders ascend up the Rahal Straight, seemingly into the sky.

Shown here is the next generation of American motorcycle racing, both male and female. 21 year-old Elena Myers leads 22 year-old Cameron Beaubier through turn 11.

Frenchman Randy DePuniet, a MotoGP expatriate and factory Suzuki test rider, brakes for turn 4. Expectations were high when he came to WSBK from GP, however his results have yet to gather steam. He finished 11th in both the morning and afternoon.

Dutchman Michael Van der Mark has a busy month. After work in California, he jumped on a plane to Japan for the Suzuka 8hr race where he is teamed with MotoGP legend Casey Stoner.

Roger Hayden leads Cam Beaubier and defending-champion Josh Hayes through turn 4. After swapping places multiple times, Hayden stuffed his Suzuki past Beaubier at the last corner, but came up short in the drag race to the line.

Alex Lowes leads current world champion Sylvain Guintoli as they brake from 165mph on the downhill, off-camber approach to turn 2.

Lean angles through the Andretti hairpin... worth the price of admission.

The corner workers, as seen in the background, are the most alert people at the track. They certainly have the best view of the racing and are charged with keeping an eye on every single racer in every corner... not an easy feat at 100mph.

Laguna Seca's defining corner, turn 8 "The Corkscrew", drops 59 feet before turn 9.

Riders accelerate out of turn 11, putting the traction control to the test.

Ayrton Badovini, an Italian on a German bike, takes the fast downhill turn 9 at around 120mph.

Niccolo Canepa, who has ridden 3 different bikes this year, finally found a good match with the Ducati 1199R.

Matteo Baiocco was a last minute replacement for the recently-sacked Nico Terol. The Ducati 1199R appears to be a wild beast, with ex-world champion Terol unable to tame the machine for the first half of the season. From a spectator point of view, the bike certainly seems to be moving around quite a bit under the rider, its traction control working overtime.

Chaz Davies rode circles around the competition. After race 2 he celebrated by throwing his gloves to some lucky fans. Either that, or he just couldn't bear the heat and 80% humidity any longer.
